The recycling and processing equipment for waste photovoltaic panels, through physical crushing and sorting, extracts silicon powder, copper powder and plastic which have a high market value. There are three main steps in the recycling of PV modules: firstly, the modules are dismantled by machine or manually to remove the backsheets, wires and aluminium frames; secondly, the modules are crushed to remove the tempered glass; thirdly, the remaining panels are crushed and sorted to extract the metals and plastics.

The main components of the PV module are the aluminium frame, glass, cells, EVA film and backsheet. The main component of the glass is silicon dioxide, with secondary components such as soda ash, limestone, magnesium oxide, alumina, mannite and carbon; EVA is mainly ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer; the core component of the cell is mainly monocrystalline silicon and polycrystalline silicon; the main material of the frame is metallic aluminium; and the backsheet is made up of two layers of PVF film and one layer of PET film. More than 90% of these materials can be recycled again.

After being processed and packaged, the sorted material is sent to different industries for reuse. Two thirds of the glass is recycled as broken glass and sent to the glass manufacturing industry; aluminium frames are sent to aluminium refineries; waste plastics are used as fuel in cement plants; recycled silicon is reused in the precious metals industry; and the remaining cables and connectors are crushed and sold as copper beads.

The scrap photovoltaic panels enter the shredder for shredding, the shredded material enters the crusher for crushing, breaking up the EVA film and single crystal silicon wafers, the broken material enters the collector through the induced draft fan, then after sorting, sorting out the silicon, the remaining mixture then enters the shredder, then through the closed air device into the airflow sorting screen, collecting the positive metal and plastic through airflow plus vibration, and collecting the dust generated by the airflow sorting machine. The dust generated by the airflow sorter is collected.
