Various waste electronic appliances recycling process

Electronic and electrical appliances are widely used in our daily and industrial activities. According to different types of waste electrical and electronic appliances (WEEE), they should be properly disposed of, and their effective resources should be recovered while avoiding pollution. Generally, factories authorized to handle this electrical and electronic waste have machinery and equipment for the safe disposal of this waste. Usually, within the same factory there are different production lines dedicated to processing different types of e-waste, and there are storage areas within the processing center for temporary storage of the same type of waste. The possible hazardous components inside the equipment must be considered during disposal to prevent the risk of contamination.

In fact, a large part of the electrical and electronic waste recycling process is still performed manually by professionals: only then can the hazardous substances contained in the waste be safely removed. The use of dedicated machines remains at the heart of the entire processing line, following its dismantling: let's take a look at which tools are used on the market to handle different types of electrical and electronic equipment waste.

Refrigeration equipment

Recycling production line of waste

refrigerators

Refrigeration equipment (refrigerators, freezers, industrial or professional refrigeration equipment, air conditioners, etc.) is characterized by the presence of refrigerant circuits that may contain hazardous gases that are harmful to ozone or used for thermal insulation, which must be handled properly so as not to diffuse into the atmosphere. For these reasons, refrigeration equipment must remain intact during all stages of collection, transport and storage, and can only be dismantled in dedicated disposal centres. The recycling process of refrigeration equipment is as follows:

Manual removal of components

Safe removal of gases present in the refrigerant circuit

Disassembly of the compressor (separate treatment to recover the components present in the engine)

Shatter the device casing to the size of a few centimeters

Broken iron is separated

Further crushing and separation of non-ferrous metals (aluminium and copper) and plastics from crushing residues

At the end of the process, iron, plastic, copper and aluminum are obtained, ready to be sent for recycling.

Large white goods

Refers to large household appliances that do not contain refrigerants, such as washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, stoves, microwave ovens, heating systems, etc.

Disposal processes for this waste typically involve manual dismantling to remove hazardous components (mercury, asbestos), motors and other critical components, followed by shredding the housings of household appliances using dual or quad shredders to reduce size and Separation of ferrous, non-ferrous and plastic parts.

TVs and Display Screens

It mainly includes relatively old cathode ray tube displays, as well as flat-panel displays and televisions. Equipment equipped with cathode ray tubes must be handled separately from other equipment, separating the housing (almost always made of plastic, rarely wood) from the other components. The insulating sleeve can be shredded for recycling, while the cathode ray tube must be disassembled and recycled separately to prevent harmful substances from spreading into the environment.

Flat-panel displays must also be disassembled with special care so as not to damage valuable screen components and to recycle the various raw materials present in them. According to its recycling value, it can be disassembled, broken and separated by manual + mechanical methods.

Small appliances

Including various small electrical appliances, such as air humidifiers, stereos, sweeping robots, etc., they are very different before, so they must be preliminarily classified before processing, and then remove the dangerous parts (usually manual disassembly), The crushing and separation of the material is then carried out.

Non-hazardous parts are usually crushed using twin or quad shaft crushers to reduce size, then magnetic separators, eddy current separators, sorting machines, etc. are used to separate out iron, aluminum, brass, plastic, and more.

Lighting device

It mainly refers to fluorescent lamps and other lighting equipment that need special treatment that contain harmful substances such as mercury. Before treatment, the mercury components in the equipment should be separated, and then the glass, metal and plastics in it should be recovered.
