How can waste solar panels be recycled and reused?

Solar energy is an important component of renewable energy. Solar panels use the photovoltaic semiconductor material's photovoltaic voltaic effect to convert solar energy into direct current electrical energy. Solar energy as a new energy source largely reduces environmental pollution, but at the same time there may be another issue involved. That is, if the equipment that uses this new energy source, such as solar panels, is damaged and scrapped, does it cause new pollution? This involves the recycling of the panels, so how can the scrapped solar panels be recycled and reused?

Solar panel structure

From a circular economy point of view, discarded photovoltaic panels are a huge resource. These alternative electronic wastes contain a large amount of valuable raw materials, which can be effectively recycled as long as they are disposed of correctly and reasonably. Like other electronic waste, PV panels are disposed of by separating and recovering the heavy metals in them (cadmium telluride, germanium, gallium, etc.) and then dismantling and recycling materials such as glass, plastic and aluminium. So as long as it is handled properly, there is no need to worry too much about the solar panels after scrapping will bring new pollution to the environment or cause waste of resources, now developed PV panel recycling processing equipment can be very good for PV panel recycling and reuse, and will not produce pollution, the following to formally introduce this specific process flow:.

First of all, the solar photovoltaic panels that need to be recycled are sent to a centralised processing centre, where the processing centre first dismantles and separates the aluminium frame components, which are usually concentrated in the frame of the photovoltaic panels.

The second step is the treatment of the PV panels. The main purpose of this step is to separate the glass, which can be separated from the panel in its entirety using a glass separator at high temperatures.

The third part is crushing and sorting, using a crusher to break the material treated in the previous step into small pieces, then crushing and grinding these crushed materials and finally separating the different materials by electrostatic and specific gravity sorting.

In this way, different raw materials can be obtained for reuse, reducing pollution and damage to the environment and also creating economic profit.

It is important to note that solar PV panel recycling is currently a new industry and the related technology is in a constant state of change and renewal, and at some point in time new technical solutions may be introduced. At present, 95% of the material in crystalline silicon photovoltaic panels can be split, sorted, processed and recycled in solar recycling lines that are already in operation: 2/3 of the glass is recycled into broken glass and sent to glass manufacturing plants; aluminium frames are sent to aluminium refineries; waste plastic can be used as fuel in cement plants; recycled silicon can be reused in the precious metals industry; the remaining cables and connectors are The remaining cables and connectors are crushed and sold in the form of copper beads.

SUNY GROUP specialises in the development and production of equipment for the shredding and sorting of solid waste, not only for the recycling of solar panels, but also for the recycling of electronic waste, waste tyres and scrap metal.
